Dr. Ajit Kumar

Dr. Ajit Kumar is an Associate Professor of Information Systems at the Xavier Institute of Management, Xavier University, India. He obtained a PhD. from Taipei Medical University, Taiwan, and completed his Postdoctoral Fellowship from the National Central University, Taiwan. He has been involved in teaching, research, and software industries for 13+ years, across four countries – Taiwan, Libya, India, Nigeria. He has worked with sophisticated healthcare information and communication technology that includes legacy mainframe to cloud computing. He is interested in learning, teaching, and researching in areas, such as Information systems, health care, and human-computer interaction. He teaches courses like Digital Transformation Strategy, Digital Transformation of Business, Innovation and Digital Transformation Business Transformation using Artificial Intelligence, and Design Thinking for Managers. He has published twenty papers in peer-reviewed journals and presented twenty-five conference papers in various national and international conferences. His research publications have appeared in journals such as Journal of Biomedical Informatics, International Journal of Medical Informatics, IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems, and Vilakshan - XIM Journal of Management.

  1. Course Description

The digital revolution has influenced every industry, and nowadays, there is a digital element in every aspect of the business. Every business that has begun before the Internet now faces the same challenge on how to transform to compete in this digital economy. The rules of business have changed. The traditional companies need to rethink their underlying assumptions about Customers, Competition, Data, Innovation, and Value. Therefore, almost every company aspires to innovate, digitize, and transform their business, but most lack the digital transformation management expertise. Digital transformation of business is a complex process that requires the core leadership and all the company's C-suite to be completely involved. All CXOs must break down silos between departments and lead the future digital initiatives together.

2. Student Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the course, students will able to

  • Understand Digital Transformation that includes five Domains - Customers, Competition, Data, Innovation, Value in the Digital Age

  • Understand how digital transformation can affect various business functions, including marketing, sales, purchasing, logistics, human resources, etc.

  • Implement digital strategies, transform the value chain, optimize processes utilizing emerging technologies

3. Organization and Delivery of the Course

The course has 12 online sessions. Each session is for 75 minutes. The sessions are aligned with the book chapter, cases, and articles. In all sessions, the instructor will deploy a lecture, short case discussion, and class exercise for achieving the learning outcomes of the course. The purpose of class exercise and case study is to have a firm grasp of the concepts being discussed. As the Digital Transformation of Business is a highly evolving area (changes are happening daily), the instructor will provide customized and up-to-date case-let and exercise during the study.
